Bush team plans vigorous response to the London bombing

-- by John Emerson

Al Qaeda has blessed George W. Bush with another nice gift. Expect an intensification of the Bush team's attacks on everyone they can smear as a dove.

The Commander in Chief has a lot of propaganda leverage in situations like this. It's hard to say what anyone could do now to convince people that the Iraq War never did have much to do with the War on Terrorism, even though it's true.

Even before the bombing the following message was posted at The Poor Man, apropos of nothing:

Look that Sandnigger in the eye for a few seconds you pansy leftists! Let it burn in. There is another one just like him out there just waiting to murder you. Two or 3 more hits on this country and people who vomit the bile that they do in here will be hunted down and killed!

The Bush-Rove team won in 2004 by playing to their hard right core constituency, and sooner or later guys like the one I just quoted are going to feel that the time is ripe. The Bush guys will maintain plausible deniability, of course.

P.S. Here's an obvious solution: expand the war from Iraq into Iran and Syria. We can expect to hear a lot of this kind of thing.

I hope they can identify and capture the individuals responsible for this horrible crime.

I doubt that will be the extent of the response.

I too expect it to be used just like 9/11 was used; to justify further violence on our part and further repression in our own nations. It would be so much easier, cheaper, and morally justifiable to bring the perpetrators to justice while examining the whole picture to understand the root causes. No therapy, just justice and correction. Not gonna happen.

Violence begets violence. It's like Israel and Palestine, only global. Never change the policy, never look for root causes, never wonder why this is happening, don't question your own culpability. Meet violence with greater violence, and spin the cycle up.

Is that how the left perceives this massacre?
As a "gift?"

Good God! Are you sane man?

Bush needs something like this to give him an excuse to ramp up the rhetoric. Just watch. He can't brag about his successes, so he needs an intensified crisis.

Your own suggestion, while ludicrously impractical, is just the kind of thinking he hopes for.

It's not possible to be too cynical about political leaders in general, and certainly not Bush.

Atlas,

Say it slowly, maybe you'll understand. Gift-to-Bush.

Fox News, after all, agrees:

Fox News' Brian Kilmeade: London terror attack near G8 summit "works to ... Western world's advantage, for people to experience something like this together"

Atlas a disrupter, probably paid with government money,

Who benefits?

Why does the boogeyman always come out when Bush is in trouble?

Does Karl Rove still have his security clearance?

Was this provoked, was it a black op?

Who are the terrorists?

Why should anybody believe anything this administration says?

Why were all the people who got it right fired?

Why did all the people who got it wrong get rewarded?

Where is all our missing money?

Demand the truth.

Nothing more

Nothing less

That I read that comment again and it sounds like somebody making a threat. I don't suppose the FBI wishes to prevent violence, only to punish dissenters.

Spot-on John!

Time to trot out one of my keepers. Interestingly, this story is from FOX "News".

Enlarging the Problem By Kenneth Adelman, Wednesday, April 03, 2002; My longtime mentor, Donald Rumsfeld, is fond of saying: When a particular problem is intractable, enlarge it. ...

I linked to Atlas, so she can't be called a troll or disrupter. She writes:

Bush can't brag about his successes?

The march for freedom in countries worldwide? the Rose, Cedar, Iranian Constitutionalist party, the Ukraine, Afghan voting, Iraqi voting, Islamic women voting.........decades coming down in a day
it can't happen with only sweetness and light
it's a fight and these barbarians mean to win it.

Iraq and Afghanistan aren't impressing anyone. (Check and see what's really happening, beyond the press releases) Bush has done no good in Iran (they'va had voting there for years, and the good guys are losing now). Throw in North Korea, Uzbekistan, Egypt and Saudi Arabia, where there's been deterioration or stagnation.

Lebanon and the Ukraine were nice, whether or not Bush had anything to do with it. But not something that Bush can run on.

He CAN run on a new crisis, combined with attacking the patriotism of people like me.

Don't be daft. The jihadis don't use timing devices, they use human triggers or car bombs propelled with the use of human power.

Al-CIAda strikes again.

What a coincidence that this occurred on the heels of Britain's July 4th announcement that it will withdraw from Iraq over the next 18 months.

Just like Madrid.

What a fucking coincidence.

How convenient. DSM and Planegate off the front page and some fuel to fire up the ole fear machine.

Just remember...AlQuaida is a CIA asset and always has been.

The truth is out there...

Why was Israel warned and not the Britons?

Report: Israel Was Warned Ahead of First Blast
10:43 Jul 08, '05 / 1 Tammuz 5765

(IsraelNN.com) Army Radio quoting unconfirmed reliable sources reported a short time ago that Scotland Yard had intelligence warnings of the attacks a short time before they occurred.

The Israeli Embassy in London was notified in advance, resulting in Finance Minister Binyamin Netanyahu remaining in his hotel room rather than make his way to the hotel adjacent to the site of the first explosion, a Liverpool Street train station, where he was to address an economic summit.

At present, train and bus service in London have been suspended following the series of attacks. No terrorist organization has claimed responsibility at this time.

Israeli officials stress the advanced Scotland Yard warning does not in any way indicate Israel was the target in the series of apparent terror attacks.

For the record, I do not think that al-Qaeda is a CIA front, nor do I think that Israel received special warnings of the London attack.

During the Soviet war in Afghanistan, US aid probably ended up going to people who eventually ended up in the Taliban or al Qaeda. That relationship ended long ago, though.

Perhaps Israeli intelligence tried to warn the British that something was going to happen, but the British ignored them. Perhaps not. But the Netanyahu story here looks bogus.

I want to say a couple of things before I say anything about the Israeli rumors.

1.) Richard Clark reported that Iraq was was the topic on September 12, 2001. Spending the day mourning the victims of the attack like Kevin Drum suggested and Billmon later concurred was not an option. Burn me once...

2.) Who did it? Does our government or the British government have any credibility at all? I want everything fact checked fairly and publicly.

3.) This is a supposed democracy and we need to get it right, that means examining everything, not just the stuff we are comfortable with.

4.) In a crime scene you are suppose to ask 'who benefits'.
