Government and Party Merge
-- by Dave Johnson
Government payoffs for Republican political support.
One for $631,775, awarded last October to the Cuban American National Council, which the report says had yet to produce anything. This was only disclosed after a scandal brought some of the only oversight of how the government has spent money since Bush took office. They audited only the smallest fraction of Bush's spending of our tax dollars. (Remember the missing $8 billion in Iraq?)
The question is, what else is going on? The Republican Party refuses to allow any public accounting of how our money is being spent. How much of it is flowing into Party political operations? How much of it is flowing directly into the pockets of friends and family?

It's pretty clear they're not worried about ever being out of power and held accountable.
