You're giving me some stiff competition Richard. If you think three jobs is sad, last time I counted I have had over thirty brilliant careers.

If I knew more about Symi, I may have chosen it instead of Australia.

Scratch Aliens. I forgot about Cool Hand Luke. Several other Paul Newman movies could have made the list. The Swimmer, The Hustler and Absence of Malice come to mind.

Symi is wonderful. I spent only ten days there, but it was exactly what a Greek island is supposed to be. No crowds (if you play it right), perfect little Med beaches, some terrific views, good taverna food. Not the place if you want night life. At least it was still nice eight years ago.

And I lied about the movies. When I started typing the list, I was pretty sure that only The Best Years of Our Lives would be on both my "best" and "watch over and over" lists. Godfather 2 got on the list after a lot of searching for a fourth entry. (It is of course in my top four "best" movies also.)

I like The Verdict. Perfect for aging Newman. James Mason great as "the prince of fucking darkness".

Upon further consideration, fresh raspberries with creme anglaise replaces creme brulee (even when done well). That is all.

Movies list that doesn't include at least one Bogart flick can't be legit.

Also One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest not mentioned?

Movies I watch over and over...

The Blues Brothers

African Queen

Cool Hand Luke

Cuckoos Nest

Braveheart

Wizard of Oz

Gone With the Wind

Forest Gump

Four foods:

Stone Crab with Mustard Garlic Aoli

Ceasar Salad (done correctly - incl. anchovie)

Prime aged Porterhouse steak (did I say PRIME?)

Dry Brut Champagne (pick one of many great makers, Dom, Cristal etc.)

Posted by: fodderunit at December 27, 2005 2:31 AM

Ah, The 4 food groups?

Posted by: hedonist at December 27, 2005 2:34 AM

fodderunit makes a good point. It's impossible to pick only four movies. I could probably pick my four favorite movies of each decade since the fifties and I'm not even a movie buff.
