Shit Hitting Fan In Iraq
-- by Dave Johnson
Never mind all the other stuff going on. Someone blew up the Askariyah shrine in Samarra, Shiites across the country are retaliating, Iran is balming the US, and things appear very close to coming apart there. One of the best places to learn about what is happening in Iraq is Informed Comment. Drop everything you are doing, go read.

The civil war in Iraq is fast becoming a red hot civil war, with us in the middle as usual. So what else would you expect? So much shit is hitting the fan right now in so many ways it's hard to keep up. And this is just the tip of the iceberg. We're being pushed around by forces we haven't bothered to understand. Somebody had better start figuring it all out.

MJ,
Maybe I can help. The bombing of the Mosque seems to be a desperate and transparent attempt by Al-Quida sympathizers to derail Iraq's move toward Democracy.
The Iraqi's are a fairly sophisticated people, and will undoubtably see through this. This event will actually serve to consolidate the tribes against the outside agitaters, and lead to a more solid Democracy. No civil war will take place.
Mark my words.
