Why I Am A Vegetarian

-- by Dave Johnson

I was volunteering at the Santa Cruz SPCA and took care of a pot-bellied pig once. It came up to me, wagging its tail, and liked to be scratched behind the ears. Just like a dog. I haven't eaten red meat since that day. I miss it but I can't eat it, especially pork.

Now watch this -- an elephant painting a self-portrait:

I am from Africa - and we love our meat. It is part of who we are and part of our culture. We don't look down at vegans. No matter how disgusted we are in their eating habits. ;) But maybe I won't eat meat from most countries either. Not because of the cuteness factor - rather because of what the animals are fed. More on this in my blog at http://angryafrican.net/2008/01/24/we-eat-meat-get-used-to-it/
