If Obama Doesn't Turn Left And Fast

-- by Dave Johnson

Many Democrats are not going to show up and vote. That is all there is to it. Obama also has to start standing up for the people, demanding that Dems in the Senate start acting like Democrats, and doing so very publicly and loudly. If he doesn't do these tihngs people will cement the nearly-formed opinion that he doesn't care, is weak, wavers, etc.

Dems have to deliver. That means jobs - directly from the government and paying well. And delivering also means a "public option" for all of us. None of this ordering us to buy a bad product from evil corporations - or only letting a few people have the public option. That won't cut it.

Digby takes this a bit further, pointing out that the 2010 losses will be attributed to teh country "moving to the right" instead of the reality of people now showing up to vote because Obama and Congressional Democrats already are too far to the right.

I've seen this theory bounced around but don't really believe it. The progressives say this every time in the off year and every time they crumble and vote Democrat. They are born doormats. They'll never change.

Next year the money from the corporations will start pumping up the GOTV and they'll be told that they have to vote Democrat or the planet will explode and Bush will have a third term and appoint lizzards to the supreme court who will ban abortions or something stupid.

Works every time.

They haven't even got serious rhetorically yet. How many have said, "Nader was right"? How many knee-jerk say that "of course" Obama is not comparable to Bush?

I never believed for one second that Obama was anything other than the right-of-center GOP operative he has been for the last en years (at least).

Now that the first year of total Democratic Majority has proven that the entire Democratic Leadership are all Republican Operatives, It's obvious that from the time Reagan was Acting-President, the Democratic Leadership's orders from their GOP overlords has always been that whenever they find themselves accidentally in the majority due to GOP malfeasance, to enact the most egregious Republican legislation and sell-out their electoral base so that the GOP gets back in power again.

That this is so painfully obvious that I am surprised that Progressives and Liberals and Democratic voters are surprised that their leaders are selling them out.

Are things really that desperate amongst his own party?

As a UK citizen with an interest in politics all this really interests me
