But when you lose your job, start praying, since Clinton took a machete to the safety net. And thanks to Clinton's NAFTA, you might as well expect your job to be shipped out. One thing we can say about Bill Clinton is that he succeeded in fulfilling the Republicans' greatest hope -- effectively killing off the New Deal from the bottom up. Without him, we could not have the remarkable economic conditions that we enjoy today. Of immediate interest: By effectively pushing the president out, replacing him with Clinton at the DNC, Clinton has almost certainly ensured the Republican vow to "make Obama a one-term president." The millions of low-income Americans who voted for Obama in 2008, in hopes that he could launch a legitimate discussion about job loss and poverty, have been told very clearly that there is no reason for them to vote in 2012.
